OTTAWA Feb 10 (Reuters) - Clean energy developers Northland Power Inc NPI_u.TO (NPI.TO) and privately-held Skypower Ltd said on Thursday they will work with aboriginal groups in Ontario to develop wind and solar power projects.

Northland Power will develop a 60-megawatt wind farm in northern Ontario in a joint venture with aboriginal company Mnidoo Mnising Power.

Construction of the McLean's Mountain wind farm will begin mid-year on Manitoulin Island at the north end of Lake Huron, and the project is scheduled to start operations by January 2012.

Revenue from the project, which will generate enough electricity to power 17,500 homes, will be shared by the two companies.

Mnidoo Mnising was formed by an aboriginal tribal council on Manitoulin Island to develop renewable power projects.

Northland owns or has an economic interest in nine power projects that generate more than 1,050 MW of power from solar, wind, biomass and natural-gas-fired plants.

It also has 216 MW of wind, solar and run-of-river hydroelectric projects in advanced development after being awarded contracts under Ontario's feed-in-tarrif program.

SkyPower, one of Canada's biggest owners and developers of solar energy projects, said separately on Thursday that it will lease land in Thunder Bay, Ontario, from an aboriginal group to develop a 10-MW, 45,000-solar panel power project.

SkyPower said that once construction is completed this summer, the park is expected to be Canada's only large-scale solar park developed on native land.

It will be built on about 100 acres (40.5 hectares) of property owned by the Fort William First Nation.

Shares of Northland Power fell 7 Canadian cents to end at C$15.87 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Thursday.
