Solar energy is viewed favorably or very favorably by 79 percent of consumers, according to a new survey conducted by Pike Research. Wind energy was also widely accepted, with 75 percent of respondents feeling favorably about the idea.
In addition, 64 percent of consumers accepted hybrid vehicles, while 57 percent felt favorably about electric automobiles, the report said. All other power sources, such as biofuels and clean coal - which both received support from 47 percent of those polled - were favored by less than half of respondents. Most consumers were felt as though nuclear power and cap and trade options were "strongly unfavorable."
As the availability of green energy sources becomes more widespread, it is likely that most consumers will continue to feel better about the benefits they provide, including reduced costs and a significant decrease in the amount of pollution generated by these options.
